Milling machine is a widely used machine tool. It can process planes, grooves, toothed parts, spiral surfaces and various curved surfaces. In addition, it can also process various complex surfaces. Compared with planers, it is more efficient and widely used in mechanical manufacturing and repair departments.

The milling machine was originally a horizontal milling machine invented by American E. Whitney in 1818. Later, in order to mill the spiral grooves of twist drills, American J.R. Brown invented a universal milling machine in 1862, which was the prototype of a lifting table milling machine. Gantry milling machines appeared around 1884. Semi-automatic milling machines were invented in the 1920s, and the workbench can use blocks to complete the automation of rapid feeding.

After 1950, the milling machine developed rapidly in terms of control systems, and the application of digital control greatly increased the automation of milling machines. Especially after the 1970s, the digital control system and automatic tool change system of microprocessors were applied to milling machines, which expanded the processing range of milling machines and improved the processing accuracy and efficiency. As the mechanization process continues to intensify, CNC programming has begun to be widely used in machine tool operations, releasing labor.

Today we mainly introduce the turret milling machine, also called rocker milling machine and universal milling machine. This is a light general-purpose metal cutting machine with two functions of vertical and horizontal milling. It can mill the plane, bevel, groove and spline of medium and small parts.

First of all, we need to understand that the turret milling machine is composed of the main components such as the machine tool base, fuselage, workbench, middle slide, lifting slide, etc. These castings are made of Meehanite strong casting guide rails, the worktable is quenched, tempered and hardened, precision ground, cast, and artificially aged, which ensures the stability of the machine tool for long-term use.

The milling head of the Taishi milling machine is equipped with a turret milling head, and the spindle is equipped with two feeding modes, manual and micro-motion, which is convenient for processing; the fundamental point is that the milling head of such a turret milling machine can be adjusted ±45° in the vertical plane and rotated 360° in the horizontal plane, thereby expanding the processing range of the machine tool. There are three types of manual feeding, motorized feeding and motorized fast feeding in the longitudinal and transverse directions of the worktable. The motorized feeding can obtain 8 different feeding speeds to meet different processing requirements; fast feeding can enable the workpiece to quickly reach the processing position and shorten the non-processing time. The Z-direction lifting of the lifting table can be achieved by manual and motorized methods, and the manual and motorized methods are interlocked, eliminating unsafe factors. The X-axis travel of the worktable can reach processing lengths of 800mm-1000mm, the precision can range from 360mm-480mm, the front and rear feed travels range from 360mm-4000mm, and the X, Y, and Z three-way guide rails are subjected to ultrasonic quenching, precision grinding and scraping treatment, which ensures high precision and extends the service life of the machine tool. The turret milling machine also has a manual lubrication device that can force lubricate the longitudinal, transverse, and vertical screws and guide rails to reduce the wear of the machine tool and ensure the efficient operation of the machine tool; some customers also need to configure a cooling system according to processing needs to change the flow rate of the coolant by adjusting the nozzle to meet different processing needs. The machine tool is also equipped with a digital display and a grating ruler for easy operation, simple and intuitive.
