1, Overview and Core Definition
CNC milling machine machining center, commonly referred to as machining center, is the cornerstone equipment of modern manufacturing industry.

Core definition: It is a high-efficiency, high-precision, and highly automated machine tool controlled by a computer numerical control system, with at least three linear coordinate axes (X, Y, Z) and an automatic tool changing device. Its core function is milling, which involves using rotating multi blade cutting tools to perform material removal machining on fixed workpieces.

 

Key features:

CNC: Computer numerical control, which controls all machine tool movements through pre programmed programs.

Automatic tool changing device: This is the key difference between "machining centers" and ordinary "CNC milling machines". It has a tool library that can automatically change tools under program control, enabling multiple processes such as drilling, milling, boring, and tapping to be completed in one clamping.

High automation: greatly reduces manual intervention and achieves long-term unmanned or less manned operation.

 

2, Working principle
Programming: Use CAD software for 3D modeling of parts, and then generate tool paths and CNC machining programs (usually G code) based on the model using CAM software.

Clamping: The workpiece is precisely fixed on the workbench (or pallet).

Setting: The operator inputs the program into the CNC system, installs the required tools into the tool magazine, and sets the origin of the workpiece coordinate system.

 

Automatic processing:

The program starts and the workbench drives the workpiece to move to the machining position.

ATC retrieves the designated tool from the tool magazine and loads it into the spindle according to instructions.

The spindle rotates at high speed and is linked along the X, Y, Z axes and possible rotation axes to enable the tool to cut the workpiece according to the predetermined trajectory.

After completing a process, the spindle moves back to the tool change point, and ATC automatically replaces the next tool to continue with the next process.

This process continues until all features of the part have been machined
